Since its foundation, CNRRI has obtained 146 achievements in scientific research, ranging from new rice varieties, breeding materials (CMS lines and restorer lines) and cultivation technologies to farming related products. CNRRI has commercially released 96 new rice varieties (inbred and hybrids) that were certificated by national or provincial evaluation committees. In addition, CNRRI has obtained 11 patents concerning rice breeding and farming technology. Accumulative extension and application area benefiting from CNRRI's research achievements and technological transfers exceeds 10 million ha per annum, making significant contributions to China's food self-sufficiency.
In recognition of its outstanding work and remarkable achievements in rice research, CNRRI was awarded 50 provincial prizes and six national prizes including two first-class and two second-class of Science and Technology Progress Award given by the State Council of China.
